The Harlem Renaissance was an artistic explosion in Harlem, New York throughout the 1920s and was widely considered the rebirth of African-American arts. The social and intellectual revival started in New York, but spanned throughout the midwest and even as far as Europe. The period, which started in 1918, is considered a golden age in African American culture, manifesting in literature, music, stage performance and art.

Join us as we celebrate the 100 year anniversary of this amazing period in the Short North this Saturday, August 4th from 4pm to 10pm. This gallery hop event is not your average gallery hop. There will be original murals throughout the city, amazing music, and curated exhibitions featuring local African American artist.

There will be 10 galleries, each with a unique feature. Walk the streets and meet the artists behind the great works you see, hear, and experience. See live performances, movie screenings, poetry, dance, and so much more. You don’t want to miss this!

Join Hopper Carts for the Smart Columbus Experience Center Grand Opening & Smart Mobility Block Party on June 30 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m!

Smart Columbus is opening their brand new Experience Center on the Scioto Mile where anyone can come and learn about the future of mobility and how everyone in our community can move more efficiently to ultimately make our city more vibrant and sustainable. The building opens at 11:00 am, so make sure you are there if you want to be one of the first inside.

Before the building opens, there will be a block party starting at 9:00 am where you can check out some of Columbus’ modes of transportation! There will be vehicles from COTA, CoGo Bike Share, Chariot, Lyft, SHARE, Yellow Cab, and many others. There will also be a Hopper Cart so if you’ve been waiting for your chance to check one out, here is the perfect opportunity!

There will be music, food, raffles, and other entertainment. Take a Hopper to COSI for free admission all day and even test drive an electric vehicle. The Hopper team is very proud to be from a city like Columbus, Ohio. Being the second-largest city in the Midwest (behind only Chicago) means there is always growing opportunity. With the ability to go from one distinct neighborhood to the next so quickly, there are a wide variety of things for Columbusites to see and do and our mission is to help get you around these neighborhoods in an eco-friendly way with zero cost to you.

Since the beginning, the primary goal of Hopper Carts has been to get you from point A to point B with no cost to you or the environment. We take a lot of pride in being more than just a transportation company, but also being an eco-friendly company helping to save the environment.

This month we are going to deepen the roots. We have teamed up with LifeWtr to plant a tree for every 25 Hopper rides during November. You hop, we plant. It’s as simple as that!

We are very excited to partner with companies like LifeWtr that share the same views on helping the environment as we do. Together we will reduce emissions, plant trees, and get you to where you’re going!

Our unique carts are 100% electric and have ZERO emissions. Just one Hopper keeps over 11,000 kilograms of CO2 emissions out of the air every year. Our goal is to get you to where you’re going, help our beautiful planet, and give you an unforgettable experience!

So when you’re Downtown or in the Short North and looking for somewhere to go, we’ll hop you on over! Need a hot coffee? A bite to eat? There may not be such thing as a free lunch, but at least you know the ride getting there will be.

What a ride! We are officially just over 60 days into operations and 30 days into testing our apps. We want to thank everyone that has requested or rode in a Hopper. We appreciate your patience and willingness to work with us as we continue to improve our mobile app. We want to know how we can improve our app to make the experience better for you. This month we are going to give away a $25 Forno gift card to one lucky user that leaves us constructive feedback on their experience with the app(leave feedback HERE).

We have learned a lot in our short time operating so we have made some changes we wanted to update you with.

The App

We have just ended the first phase of the app. We have worked out the major bugs and now plan to focus on improving the user experience. We will begin to populate the events, featured destinations and deals pages. Keep an eye out for specials to your favorite local hot spots!

If you are havi ng any issues with the app we recommend you uninstall and reinstall. This has fixed the bugs we have experienced with earlier versions. If you are still having any issues please contact us HERE.

Timing:

We recommend you call a Hopper 8-10 minutes before you need one. We can only go 25 mph!

When demand for rides exceeds supply most ridesharing companies apply surge pricing. We want to make sure our rides are always FREE. This means that during busy periods you may have to wait longer than normal, please tip your driver on all rides.

Tracking:

We are updating how you track your Hopper and the countdown feature. In the near future, you can expect more accurate vehicle tracking and more accurate times on your ride.

Tipping:

We are making it easier to tip through the app. Currently, only the person that requested the ride can tip.

Service Area

It is our goal to offer our riders an exciting, unique and efficient way to get around town. We updated our service area to ensure that we can offer our riders a first class service. As we grow our fleet, we will look at expanding our service area.

Sunday-Thursday: 11:00 am – 10:00 pm

Friday-Saturday: 11:00 am – 12:00 pm

Tech Crunch

Tech Crunch and Loud Capital hosted a 90-second pitch competition at Standard Hall in late June. We were asked to pitch along with 9 other startups from as far away as Buffalo, New York. We ended up finishing second in the competition and will be flying out to San Fransisco for Tech Crunch Disrupt.

We are excited to take Hopper to the west coast!

We are excited to announce that we are officially launching our pilot program May 1st.

Here at Hopper, the last 6 months have been a whirlwind of activity. We started out with an idea that we thought could help the city that we love. Building something from the ground up is an emotionally and physically draining process. The support we received from residents of Columbus, local businesses, and other groups have kept us going after many sleepless nights.

Our pilot program will last 60 days with the first re-evaluation after 30 days. During this time we will be working on recognizing and fixing any issues with our app, service area, hours of operation and logistics.

Our Hours:

Note the first week of operations(May 1st-8th) we will be opening at 4:00 pm every day.

Sunday- Wednesday: 10:45 am – 10:00 pm
Thursday- Saturday: 10:45 am – 12:00 am

How to Ride:

During the pilot program, you can request a Hopper through our app or hail one down on the street.

Our App:

The Android version of our app is currently in the Google Play store and READY for download. We have submitted our IOS app and are waiting for approval from Apple.

Download the app HERE , or simply search for “Hopper Carts” in the Google play store.

During our pilot program, we do expect some minor errors in the app. We are still working on some of the extra features of the app. Currently, we are having issues with the deals page, but are working diligently to fix it.

We want to use this time to create the best experience possible for our users. Please email us any feedback about the app at updates@hoppercarts.com.
